Claire, a sweet, innocent and young girl, is going off to college.  Unbelievably smart Claire was placed in all advanced classes in high school and graduated at a very young age, sixteen.  Claire was ready and very anxious to go to a big college, but her parent’s weren’t quite there yet.  They thought she was still a little girl and too young, but they also thought it would be a good experience for her and it would help her in life.  So Claire and her parents agreed to send her to a small college in a little town called Morganville, Texas. Boy, that was a bad idea.

Claire was off to college.  Placed in all advanced classes and living in a dorm, Claire was finally on her own and ready to go.  Even though she didn’t know who or what the people were like in Morganville, she did know she was excited to go to college.  Claire found out the hard way that Morganville wasn’t the perfect or safest town to be in.

Because of something that takes place at school, Claire is badly hurt and her days of living on campus aren’t safe.  So she forces herself to move off campus.  Not knowing exactly what to do, she looks in the newspaper and finds and ad for an apartment within a house that she can rent with three other people living in it.  So she calls, hey, what has she got to lose? She already got the crap beaten out of her by the pretty and rich girls…not a very good way to start her first college year.  Along the way, Claire finds out history about Morganville.  She will also meet people who will try to stand up for her, people who are willing to take a risk, and the dark side of town where the shadows are hungry for blood and won’t take no for an answer.

This is an outstanding book!  I would recommend it to teenage girls who like suspense, thrill and danger.  Rachel Caine is a very good writer and she puts a lot of effort into her books to make them shine.  But this book is about more than just the darkest parts of Morganville, it’s about love, life, growing, and trying to keep peace.  Glass Houses is only one out of seven books (at the moment).  It’s a fast read and Rachel Caine leaves you wanting to pick up the next book and just keep reading.
