Smallworlds is a virtual world that was launched in 2008. In 2009, it was voted top prize in the social computing category of the adobe MAX awards.
Smallworlds, a game of many things. In this complex virtual world you first create you avatar. You choose from many personalizing options of hair, faces, and accessories. In the game, you can be a “vip” member. You can also be a “noob” member. In order to become a vip member you have to either pay $40 for a year of vip or choose another monthly vip paypal option. Another way you can get a vip membership is through paying with “gold”. In the world of Smallworlds you have tokens and gold. Gold is more valuable than tokens and buy cooler advanced items with gold. When you’re a vip member you get “citizen level”. Whenever you re-purchase vip you advance in citizen level. You have a lot more playing options as a vip member. You can go to more places, customize your avatar with more options, wear different clothing permitted from noobs, and purchase certain rares. Rares are items that are difficult to find and purchase. You can sometimes find them in various flea markets and shops. Every month Smallworlds comes out with a new “wearable”. These are items that you can wear and they turn you into different things. In Smallworlds you can make up to five avatars on one account. You can also have as many “places” as you want. Smallworlds offers a variety of different places you can purchase. Every time you create a new avatar you get a new “starter home”. Some of the more advanced houses have a lot more space and an upstairs. At the bottom of the page there is a “places” button. If you click on it, it will expose you to popular places, featured places, places for sale, and many others. On the popular page, there are places with a lot of other members there. Most of the places on the popular page are places other members made. There is also “magic” in this virtual world. Magic are guns such as freeze rays and sonic confusers. Another form of magic is potions. When you use magic on another avatar, it restricts them from doing certain things. The virtual world of Smallworlds is very complex and entertaining.
I absolutely love Smallworlds. I am a vip member. A minor disclaimer; this game is very addictive. Once you start playing you won’t be able to stop. Playing the game boosts your social skills, bargaining skills, and computer skills depending on your use of the game. I suggest this game to anyone who loves socializing and virtual worlds. I wouldn’t suggest this game to people under the age of 12 because you can instant message any avatar (which are real people playing around the world).
