“I can’t die yet, honey. I haven’t finished counting the stars and don’t you know my darling girl, that you will never be alone, because there is always love, and love lives forever.”

In the book, Just the Way You Are, by Barbara Freethy Sam and Ali has a life together that they share with their 9 year old daughter, Megan. In the small town of Tucker’s Landing, the family that they created is being tested, by Sam’s first love, Ali’s sister, Tessa. The dysfunctional family is brought together by a stroke from their 70 year old Grandmother, Phoebe. They are forced to talk about their feelings and what happened that night, on Christmas, when Tessa took that job in modeling and left Sam, 9 years ago. Tessa’s photographer, Jimmy, joined her unexpectedly on the wild ride about to come. Mixed emotions on love between these 4 may be bringing all of them together. On their Grandmothers request, they go out and find the last pearl, to finish the necklace her and her husband created when they were together. Finding that last pearl meant everything to Ali and Tessa, it would finally bring everyone together. But after 9 years of hatred, is it possible for this family to finally put what happened behind them and move on?

Barbara Freethy definitely portrayed every character as they were meant to be. Ali, Tessa and Sam’s problem was put on the spot that made everything else anyone did more interesting. The emotions that ran throughout the book were intense and you can feel it with each page you turned. Just the Way You Are is an amazing book and I’d recommend it to anyone who is mature likes a love story with a bit of a twist.
