Rhine has finally escaped her nightmare of a life with the guy she’s in love with, but she is far from safe. Living in a world where all girls die at age 20 and all guys die at age 25 is not easy. Especially when many dangers await you everywhere. There’s Gatherers who kidnap young girls to sell them to rich men to get married. There’s people who take girls they find to become prostitutes. And worst of all, Rhine is being followed by her evil father in law, Vaghn. Rhine was gatherered and married off to a man named Linden, but she wasn’t the only one. Two girls, Jenna and Cecily, also married Linden. She soon fell in love with one of the staff who is also her age. His name is Gabriel. After seeing the dangers that come from Vaghn, Rhine and Gabriel decide to run away to find Rhine’s twin brother Rowan. They face a lot of hardships on their journey only to find that Rowen is no longer at their home. Not only that, but he also burned down the house and took everything before he left. With Vaghn following her and her brother nowhere to be seen, Rhine has to find someplace to stay while trying to figure out where Rowan has gone. Will she find him? Will Vaghn find her?

Fever is the second book in The Chemical Garden Trilogy. The first book is called Wither. These books show an interesting version of what the future holds. Lauren DeStefano pays attention to detail and she has a great writing technique. Once you start reading, you won’t want to put the book down. She leaves you always wanting more. This book grabs your attention with exciting scenes. It shows you the world in the future and how damaged it is from war and everything decaying. Everything in the poor part of the world, but in the rich places everything is nice and pretty. I would recommend this book to teenage girls who enjoy reading about the future and enjoy a little romance. You will fall in love with The Chemical Garden Trilogy after reading the first book.
