Have you ever lost it all? Have you ever felt so alone that all you wanted to do was leave your life and start another one? Jacob did. After his parents died in a tragic car accident, Jacob was left alone. With his Ivy League veterinarian degree, he began to walk. Since his parents had left him nothing behind for him after their death, he followed train tracks for a day until a train finally came. Little did Jacob know, this was no ordinary train that would lead him to bigger things and a new life. Once he’d jumped the train, he began to live the life of the Benzini Brothers Most Spectacular Show on Earth. This circus traveled around the country and performed for everyone and anyone. Thrilled by discovering Jacob and his Ivy League degree, Uncle Al, the circus’s owner, agrees to give Jacob a job as the circus’s new veterinarian. After being on the circus for a few days, Jacob meets Marlena, the circus’s star performer. After only meeting Marlena for the first time, he knew he was in love with her. But Marlena was married to Jacob’s stern, cruel boss, August.

After the circus’s main act’s animal dies, they’re forced to find another animal to replace it. Soon, Rosie is bought, a10 foot tall elephant, seeming to have no sense at all. Not only has she never been trained to be in a circus, but according to August, she’s extremely dumb and can’t do a thing. But Jacob sees differently. He realizes just how amazing she really is and what she is capable of doing.

The romance and murder in the story line not only make it one of  the best books I’ve ever read, but it kept me reading until the very last page, never wanting to put it down. I would definitely recommend this book to people who mainly like romance and action. Water For Elephants never left me bored or confused. It always kept me guessing on what would happen next.
