“Still, it was pretty dark. I’m afraid of the dark.I had some bad experiences as a child, imaginary friends who lurked in dark places and scared me. I know what sounds weird. Other kids dream up playmates- I imagined bogeymen.”

In The Summoning by Kelley Armstrong, Chloe Saunders used to be a normal girl, with many friends and a theatre and film class where she felt she belonged. She’s was a happy-go-lucky girl, until one day when she saw her first ghost. Ever since, Chloe is exposed to what it’s really like to be an outsider, being sent to Lyle House, a group home for troubled teens. Arriving at Lyle House, Chloe realizes that the others kids in the group home- Simon, Derek, Tori, and Liz- are more than what they seem.  Chloe discovers that the kids aren’t troubled teens, but kids with magnificent abilities. Days drag on at Lyle House, and as Chloe goes through her normal routines, secrets begin to become revealed, resulting in an unbelievable secret that will leave you on the edge of your seat. Chloe realizes she’s in danger, and she needs to escape, before it’s too late! Will Chloe survive? What’s the secret on Lyle House? Read to find out!

The Summoning is a great and easy read. It’s 390 pages long, but it doesn’t take you that long to read. It’s a suspenseful book, with action and mystery. The book really makes you feel like you’re there, experiencing everything with Chloe. Kelley Armstrong is a fantastic author, who writes awesome books. The Summoning is the first book in the “Darkest Powers” series. After The Summoning is The Awakening, and then The Reckoning. All the books are well done, and they’re one of my favorite series in the world.
