“I just woke up with a cold spooky feeling running through me. At first I couldn’t figure out what it was and pulled myself deeper and deeper under my covers and put my pillow over my head, but the shivers just got worse…” In this diary of an anonymous teenager, Treacherous Love edited by Beatrice Sparks, Jennie’s going through a rough time in her life right now, and nothing seems to be going right. Her mother seeks to self medicate her anger, her father just walked out and left, and her best friend is starting to abandon her for her new boyfriend, who seems to occupy most of her time. Jennie finds comfort in the pages of her diary, as it soon becomes her only friend.

As Jennie is going through this mess, she thinks nothing could get better. Until one day in math class they have a substitute teacher who will change Jennie’s life. Mr. Johnstone and Jennie soon become very close, but gradually their relationship grows outside of the classroom. Tossed with all these mixed emotions Jennie doesn’t know exactly what to do. In her diary, Jennie starts to explain her confusions, and you read through her moments of insecurity and loneliness as she uses her diary to escape. But will it allow her to escape from this love of a man she hardly knows, that could be betrayal?

I rated the book 5 out of 5 stars because it made me realize that it wasn’t just fiction I was reading, and that sometimes things like this can happen. Jennie really tugged at my emotions as you really got to see what she was going through. I would recommend this book to anyone, because it’s a book for anyone, and I don’t think it fits into just one category. All in all, I loved this book and I think that whoever gets the chance to read it should!
