6,000 years in the past, tribal clans roam the forest, frozen plains, and isolated islands. Legends, rituals and customs change the course of their everyday lives; this is the world that Torak is born into. For nearly his whole life Torak was kept away from any civilization, learning tracking from his father. The only time he met people was during a Clan meet, in which he was shunned by the other children. But that all changes the day Torak’s father is killed by a possessed bear. Right before he dies, he tells Torak things that make no sense. Wounded, without much food or tinder, and alone, Torak makes his way through the wilderness. And thus begins the life altering chain of events…Intertwined with a prophecy, a destiny of lies, deceit, betrayal and friendship ensue his abrupt introduction to life amongst people, including ones who would rather see him dead. Secrets are revealed that change his life forever, and a destiny awaits that he himself is not sure that he can face.

Constantly fast paced, Wolf Brother is the introduction to a series of books. Paver’s style of writing puts you back in time to Torak’s world, and clearly shows his emotions as he undergoes the turmoil in his life. The plotline is constantly taking unexpected turns, keeping the pages turning. I would highly recommend Wolf Brother to anyone who enjoys fast paced adventure books with a little bit of mystery, fantasy, and history mixed in.
