Macy Queens, 16 and a junior in high school, has gone through a lot in her life. Seeing her father die was the worst part and she never new how to grieve about it. So she kept her grades in control, has an ideal boyfriend, studies for her SATs, fills in at the library and keeps everything clean to make her life flawless. Macy finds herself a job at a business called “WISH” Catering, which was ran by a scatter brained, pregnant woman with the name of Delia and staffed by her two nephews, Bert and Wes. The company had been named after her older sister, the boy’s deceased mother.

 

Later on as Macy becomes friends with these unusual kids, she realizes that sneaking out and having fun is not so bad at all. Macy’s boyfriend Jason decides they need a break to see if they are ready for the commitment, but  as she gets to know Delia’s nephew, Wes, they start becoming closer and they share everything, even what it’s like to lose someone you love. As you read farther into this novel, you’ll see how Macy breaks out of her shell. Dessen’s book sucks you in, making you feel like your going through love, pain, and denial, but then watching all the out of order pieces of her life come back together.
