“Holly doesn’t know what it’s like to love someone who doesn’t care whether you live or die.”  Giselle has always had a strained relationship with her father.  She always had un-requited love for him, and he never seemed to muster any affection towards her.  Giselle strains to cope with mixed feelings about her father, and why he doesn’t love her as he loves her younger sister.  Giselle begins to develop an eating disorder while in college.  Soon it becomes anorexia.  Giselle has to take a break from college and go to rehab center, where she learns to control her viscous inside voice that tells her she is nothing, fat and no one will ever love her.  But everything doesn’t go as plans and she is soon sent back on the downward self destruction path.  If she doesn’t change soon, and lets her inner lioness take control, will her family- and her life ever be the same again?

In “Skinny”, Giselle must cope with her ever demanding sickness, anorexia, her dad’s absence of love, and her sister, the one person that could make her or break her.  This book is for more mature readers, who can handle more complex books, with an underlying dark message.  “Skinny” is a book with many angles, dark corners, and deep pits.  All the angles Ibi kaslick works in are related to Giselle’s self destruction, how not just factor, but many can lead one person to the brink.  Ibi’s writing style gives the book new dimensions, her usage of quotes, and great vocabulary make the book a brilliant read!  ‘‘Skinny” is a captivating read, it has you keep turning the pages to find out what happens next.  I recommend this book for teenage girls, they will find this book is amazing, just as I have!
