Pattyn, a teenage girl living in a mainly Mormon community, starts to question her life style. She grew up going to church every week and helping out with her 5 sisters. In her junior year of high school, Pattyn begins to struggle with her beliefs. Her family and church going friends are startled by her strange change in behavior. Pattyn’s father drinks and this leads to abuse towards Pattyn’s mother. Pattyn begins a relationship with a non Mormon boy from school. When it doesn’t end well, Pattyn is put into a depression. She turns to violence and anger. Her parents don’t know what to do, so she is sent away. Now living with her aunt, she learns about life and her father’s past. Finding love, she sees how beautiful life is outside of the strict Mormon religion.
