Tom Mayo is a kid just trying to make it through his dreadful high school experience. He isn’t exactly the coolest kid in school, and the bullies, otherwise called the Donkeys, simply call him Miracle Wimp. He is going through all these struggles. To start with, his guidance counselor messed up his schedule, putting him in Mr. Boort‘s, a crazy man who wears goofy pants, eats bouillon cubes, and calls students “bolos”, woodshop class, and all his counselor could say in his defense was “ Well sometimes things happen that are beyond our control. Maybe you were meant to take Wood Shop, and that’s why this happened. Some things are just meant to be.” Tom doesn’t have many friends either. His best friends were Rob and Barry, but they stopped talking when Tom stood up for a kid in Special Ed class when he died in the shower. He eventually makes new friends with Adam, a senior, and Steve, a kid he’d known since kindergarten. Tom also goes through a few more struggles before the end of the story, he manages to get his license along with “a skater dude and a broom girl“ , he also gets a girlfriend named Heather who lives in the neighboring town. They struggle, but how they end up is the real question. Miracle Wimp seems to get along just fine, life could be better for him, but beggars can’t be choosers, so he just goes with it.
Miracle Wimp is a semi- interesting story, with a bit of humor. It does however fail to elaborate into detail to really help you connect to the characters. Some of the characters like Mr. Boort, and Larry were great characters to read about though! It truly was unique in a set of characters, and most students probably feel as though they have shadows of these characters in their own school. It was an overall fair book, not great, but definitely something different.
Miracle Wimp is a good story for people looking for a story with unique characters, or someone who doesn’t feel as though they fit in at school quite right. It may even be good for somebody that’s looking for a grabbing title. Whatever the type of reader it is a pretty good book that is probably worth the read.
