morganvilleIt was a shock to you when you first moved into a town full of vampires. Obviously it was not a typical college town as you expected. You’re stunned, but soon after, you become comfortable with it. Friendships are built and romances spark. Then a new surprise comes; the draug. They are creatures that suck the blood out of people just through touch. Once they accomplish their goal, they morph back to into watery substances that slithery around, ready to attack at any moment. The whole town’s existence is threatened by them and you know that when even the vampires are scared of another creature, it must not be a safe one.

This horror is a reality for college student Clair Danvers, who got more than she bargained for when she put down her deposit after receiving her acceptance letter. She now has to find a weapon to kill the draug which, as far as they know, cannot die. The novel shows the true need for comfort and that friends will always have your back. Without hers, Clair probably wouldn’t have survived one month in the seemingly crazy town. You also need to learn to sometimes trust in someone that you wouldn’t always find reliable. That is how Clair made so many of her vampire friends that she has now bonded with. They help protect her and she them.

This is book twelve in the Morganville Vampires series, which happen to be my favorite novels. Rachel Caine writes very well and leads you to fall in love with not only the story line, but the characters themselves. Each chapter rotates to a different point of view of a person in the story, but it is done in a way that makes everything still very easy to follow. I would recommend it to everyone. That is how much I love these books. They will show you the importance of comfort and they push the point of sticking with someone even well times are tough. In this world, we need people to look out for us and we have to always remember to be there for others as well.
