The_Maze_Runner_coverImagine waking up in complete darkness. You have no idea where you are or how you got here, all you can remember is your name. This is the exact feeling Thomas felt before entering the Glade.

When the doors crank open, Thomas is surrounded by a group of boys who welcome him to the Glade. The Glade is an area enclosed by four walls, the only way out is through the doors leading to the Maze. Two years was the first time a person had ever arrived in the Glade and since then more and more have followed, each not remembering life before arriving here. In the Glade, each person has assigned themselves some sort of job such as a cook or farmer, but the most important job is being a Maze Runner even though it is a very dangerous one. Maze Runners go into the Maze every day to try and map out each section of the Maze in hopes to one day get all out them out of the Glade. The Maze Runners must return before night however or they will be locked in the Maze overnight which is very dangerous. When going into the Maze there is a strong likelihood to be stung by a Griever and if they are locked in they wouldn’t be able to receive the serum in time. A Griever is half machine, half animal and its sting can be fatal unless you get the serum which ensures your survival but is very painful because it causes you to go through the changing. When Thomas arrives at the Maze he is introduced to many new people including Alby, the leader of the group, Newt who is second in command and Chuck, the other newbie in the Glade who becomes a close friend to Thomas. The day after Thomas arrives, a girl named Teresa is lifted up into the Glade. No girl has ever been in the Glade before and she delivers a message to them. She tells them things are about to change right them slips into a coma.  She was right about change because weird things start happening and some of the boys start thinking Thomas is behind it all. Thomas might be more important than anyone ever imagined, if only he could unlock the memories of his past life.

Over all I really enjoyed this book. It was action packed book was very intense and always kept me on my toes. It was in no way predictable and the twists in the book just kept coming. What keeps this book from being 5 out of 5 was its beginning. The beginning was very slow moving but getting through it was worth it because once you get a little bit into it the excitement never dies down.  Also the book can at times become very confusing, the length of this book might scare some people away but it really is a fast moving book and I would recommend it to most people.
