After that one mistake Livie made down in the swamp, she thinks that it’s all her fault that her mother is knocked into coma. This leaves her constantly searching for the perfect healing spell to make everything go back to normal again. The fact that Livie and her mother never got along great doesn’t help either. At the same time she is being pressured to not disappoint her dad that she loves so much, along with having to be the middle child and trying to hide many jumbled secrets. After many secret visits to the traiteur to fix everything, it leaves her spending every day of the whole summer searching for clues that will lead her to the spell to wake her mother again. This sends her on a long journey back to the days when her mother was around. Livie realizes over time how much having her mother around really means to her even though they never seemed to get along. She also begins to grow closer to her two sisters through the bad times. Livie begins not to only heal her mother but many other things that have been left untouched for many years. She learns how to forgive and how to have hope through the bad times and to never give up.

This book has many different events that keep you on the edge of your seat the whole time you are reading. The different twists make you second guess what you thought was really the truth. I recommend this book to anyone who likes a story about faith and forgiveness. The Healing Spell is a book like nothing I have ever read before and you will never want to put it down.
