“I knew it would begin with the end, and the end would look like death to these eyes. I had been warned. Not these eyes. My eyes. Mine. This was me now.”

In the distant future aliens called “souls” had taken over every planet in the universe and used the bodies of the planets population as “hosts” for these “souls”. A soul has now taken over, human, Melanie Stryder’s body. The only thing is, this soul can hear its host’s thoughts. Through thought, memory, and conversation Melanie fights to regain her body, to be able to move again. Melanie uses this power to change the soul’s emotions and make decisions for the body. One day, Melanie goes too far, leading the soul to a hiding pack of humans. Through the struggle to regain the love from humans that Melanie’s memories hold, the soul begins moving away from its way  of thinking and acting (not lying or using violence) and begins to move toward using the human way of thinking, to fight for the humans lives.

The Host is an adventurous book filled with love, hate, and courage. Stephanie Meyer does an amazing job of explaining the point of view of both Melanie and the soul. I literally couldn’t stop reading, I would find myself sitting on my couch for hours reading this one book. People are often frightened by how big books are but you have to get over that in order to fall in love with The Host. When you finish, it will leave you thinking, you begin to question different things like our society and human nature. This book is filled with action and will keep you on the edge of your seat with every page. I recommend this book to teenagers and adults who love a good adventure.
