”I volunteer! “ I gasp. “I volunteer as tribute.”

Seventeen year old Katniss Everdeen lives in District Twelve with her younger sister, Primrose, and her widowed mother. What used to be North America, is now the country of Paneam. Each year the Capitol holds the ‘Hunger Games’ , a test of survival. Two tributes are chosen from each of the twelve districts, one boy, one girl, from anywhere between the age twelve and eighteen. Despite having a one in over a thousand chance of being chosen, Primrose is picked as female tribute for district twelve, along with Peeta Mellark as male tribute. Katniss, the protective and used to fighting for survival older sister that she is, volunteers to be tribute in place of her sister. Soon, Katniss is shipped off to the Capitol to train, and then brought to the arena. There are two ways to get out of the arena, dead or the winner…

The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins is the first book in the series of three. The Hunger Games is extremely well written and shows the struggle for survival. Every page leaves you with a cliffhanger, forcing you to continue reading. I would recommend this book to anyone of any age. The Hunger Games is mostly the story of Katniss and her adventure at the ‘Hunger Games’, but it also is about love, trust, betrayal, and power, making it a book everyone will love. Adventure
