The small southern town of Gatlin, South Carolina, was like any other old town, or as close as Gatlin could get. You see, Gatlin has roots spreading all the way back during the Civil War or as most people of Gatlin like to call it, the War Between the States, but that is only one minor default of Gatlin. In fact, there are dark and buried secrets that are woven into its foundations, along with the traditions that the folks of Gatlin still carry out. Nothing ever changed in Gatlin because, well, Gatlin was Gatlin. There were no surprises in Gatlin, or so it seems.

Everything starts to turn upside-down when Lena Duchannes arrives in Gatlin county. Lena is unlike anything the folks of Gatlin have ever seen.

Lena just wants to fit in, though that is quite impossible. Lena has powers that she can no longer conceal and a curse that has haunted her family for generations, and has time that is running short…Will the curse finally be broken before the time of her Claiming or will it be too late?

Ethan Wate can’t wait to escape Gatlin. He was born and raised in Gatlin and he is just sick of tired of Gatlin, Gatlin this and Gatlin that. That changes when Ethan begins to have dreams of a girl he has never met, falling as she slips through his fingers as he tries to hold onto her. Raddled by the meaning of these dreams, Ethan can’t seem to let them go. They seem to hold something of value…a connection of some sort, that one way or another evolves Lena.

Ethan, drawn to Lena, is determined to discover the connection between them.
