When Laurie Kenyon, who was abducted when she was four years old and returned home when she was six years
old , is accused of stabbing her handsome English professor in the heart, her lawyer
sister, Sarah, steps in to help her win the case. The police have DNA evidence and her fingerprints at the scene of
the crime.  When all appears to be lost, Sarah brings in a psychiatrist, Justin Donnelly. He discovers a horrible secret about Laurie. She has more than one person in her head. Justin insists on helping her unlock the secrets of the multiple personalities and the horror Laurie was witness to when she was a kid. Laurie’s abductors have been keeping an eye on her to make sure she doesn’t reveal anything about them to the psychiatrist. What makes it worse is they try to sabotage Laurie so she can’t win her case on an insanity plea. Was it really just one of Laurie’s personalities, or was it someone else??? How will Laurie get herself out of this mess?
This book’s main theme is about believing in the one’s you love. Another lesser theme would be that if you work hard enough the truth will come out into the open. Mary Higgins Clark did an amazing job telling a story with a plot twist towards the end. She adds so much detail into every chapter, so it’s almost like you’re a part of the story. It’s no wonder she’s a bestselling author.  Anyone who is into mystery, crime, or suspense novels would love this book.
In my opinion, this is one of the best novels by Mary Higgins Clark. I love the plot twists she adds to some of her best sellers, and the messages in some of the books are useful in life.  I would also recommend these other great books by Mary Higgins Clark:
Moonlight Becomes You           Let Me Call You Sweetheart
Daddy’s Little Girl                     We’ll Meet Again
Weep No More, My Lady          You Belong to Me
The Cradle Will Fall                Pretend You Don’t See Her
