There was never an “ordinary” Rothschild. Ever since the year of 1772 when Mayer Rothschild used his five sons to start an international money lending business that served kings and princes. Thus four of the five sons became nobility because of the wealth and power they possessed.

Phoebe Gutle Rothschild is the descendant of Mayer Rothschild. Due to Mayer’s accomplishments, the Rothschild family lives in luxury. They live in a large fancy house complete with a butler called Jay-Jay. On the first day of school, Phoebe finds herself drawn to the eccentric new girl with no conscience to what she wears, one day she may wear a dirty t-shirt as a dress and high heels and the next she could wear a Disney princess costume to school. This is the opposite of what Phoebe usually chooses as her friends. She abandons her passé of clean-cut rich girls and turns instead to the new girl Mallory. Phoebe and Mallory become the best of friends for many years. Until Mallory’s older brother Ryland arrived. Phoebe secretly falls in love with Ryland. But could her secret love destroy all that she has come to love in life? And could all of Mayer’s accomplishments just be because of a deal with a strange, unnatural force? The real question in this book is: is Phoebe Rothschild ordinary? Or is she extraordinary? This is a novel of love, friendship, trust, forgiveness, and a dying land of Faeries and an ancient agreement.

Extraordinary is a fascinating book that will keep you reading from the first page. It beholds surprises all throughout and old stories and tales of a past time and a dieing land. This book would appeal to those who enjoy reading of Faeries and magic. The characters are presented in a way that makes them seem real and endearing. Nancy Werlin brings you into the magical world of the Fay and their everlasting mischief making.
