In the early 1930s, author Ernest K. Gann went to flight school to become an airmail pilot. Soon qualified to fly the mail, he began an epic journey that would take him around the world. He was teamed with many great pilots, men like Ross, Hughen and McCabe. They gave him some of the wisdom he needed to become a full-fledged pilot. Numerous aerial incidents, ice on the wings and engine failures, threatened to take his life. After the start of World War Two, Gann was called to serve as an active duty transport pilot. He flew daring routes over the ocean and jagged mountains to deliver supplies to locations around the world. He begins to wonder, if the fate that has taken so many friends from the sky will become his fate too?

Fate is the Hunter is an excellent story that explores the author’s life as an airline pilot from the 1930s through the mid-1950s. Gann writes in thick style that can be difficult to understand. Though sometimes the story is dry, stories of close brushes with certain death keep you on the edge of your seat. The power of friendship and luck are very prevalent concepts throughout. Anyone that enjoys suspense and historical stories should consider reading Fate of the Hunter.
