It all started when Kate was just 4 years old, an innocent little girl, enjoying life that was diagnosed with leukemia. Kate needed blood and bone marrow donations but nobody in the family was a match. Her parents would do anything to save their little girl and that is why Anna was born. Anna was born to save her sister’s life. Her parents made her a genetically perfect match for Kate so she could donate what Kate needed. Even though Anna is not sick she spent so much time in the hospital that she might as well be. Kate understands what her illness puts her family through and is always depressed and wants everything to just be better. Anna understands why her sister needs so much attention but sometimes she just wants to be the center of attention and is unhappy too. She was 13 when she found out she had to donate a kidney to her sister Kate for her to survive. This surgery was a lot more invasive than the others and with every surgery there’s a risk. Anna would do anything to save her sister but this time she refuses to donate a kidney. She sues her family for the right to her own body. Anna knows the risks of making this decision. If she wins the case her sister will die and if she loses then her family will make her donate a kidney to Kate. So who will win the case? Will Kate die? And why won’t Anna donate a kidney to Kate to save her life?

My Sister’ Keeper is a heart touching story that shows what its like when a family suffers from having someone with leukemia. It was a great book and a tear dropper but not in the way that you would expect. The twists and turns and every page draw you in to wanting more. I wouldn’t say it is a fast paced book because all you think about is what is going to happen next. The chapters alternate points of view for each family member and friends and you hear about what it is like for each of them as they go through this experience with Kate. For each of them it is different which shows not only how the victim of leukemia suffers. Be ready to be emotional because My Sister’s Keeper will leave you with tears in your eyes.
