Shawn Spencer and Burton Guster have been fooling the Santa Barbara Police Department for years. Everyone believes Shawn has psychic powers. But when a chubby dead guy turns up in a magic trick at the Fortress of Magic and the magician is missing, can Shawn and Gus solve the case for a high paying client and protect their business? Shawn believes they can. While posing as a new mentalist act, Shawn and Gus meet some interesting characters. They meet Rudge, a magician all about keeping to the classics, Jessica Higgenbotham, a very secretive woman, and Holly Voges, an FCC agent trying to take the key piece of evidence back to Washington D.C. Time is starting to run out. Will the case ever be solved???  Can Shawn and Gus meet the standards of their well paying client, or will he make them disappear???

The author has done an amazing job making the reader feel as though they are in the story, in my opinion. He uses great imagery and figurative language. Since the books are based on the hit TV show, most already know the characters and are well acquainted with their crazy antics or serious composure. William Rabkin has written for TV shows and his strange and knowledgeable humor shows in his work. Anyone looking for a good laugh and a good read should consider this book and the others in the series.
