Picture yourself at the top of the high school food chain; the girl everyone wants to be. Untouchable to anyone below you, you’ve got what you’ve always wanted. It took time, yet little effort to get there, but the true test is whether or not you can keep it up. In Brookhaven High School, the Pretty Little Devils, or PLD’s, are the most popular girls, along with their equally ruling rivals, the cheerleaders. All is well in their perfect world, until incredibly horrible things start happening.

Hazel Stone had always wanted to be at the top like the PLD’s, but she was hopeless. One day, she became friends with the leader of their pack, Sylvia Orly, over spilt milk. After being invited to the Popular Table, she bonds with the girls and eventually, through tough and threatening initiations, becomes a Pretty Little Devil. The group members are all assigned babysitting jobs weekly and split the money.  At the jobs, people are invited over to party once the kids are sleeping. Hazel meets Matty, a popular new jock at the school. They bond instantly and soon end up in a relationship. As nice as the whole scene sounds, Hazel begins receiving threatening calls and texts one night while babysitting alone. The first time, she realized it was her friends, pulling yet another initiation prank. Still, the threats continue, and all the PLDs begin to receive them, not long after Hazel had gotten hers. Scary phone calls are one thing, but the threat is brought to a whole new level when the PLD’s rival, Breona Wu, is brutally murdered. The entire school suspects it was Sylvia, but the girls stick together and make it through without questioning. Who would do such a thing? Surely the murderer was insane. Will one of the Pretty Little Devils be next?

I think this book was amazing. Nancy Holder’s writing style is unique, and I think teenage girls would love how modern this story is. This book shows how being envious can get you into large amounts of trouble. At times, the story is a little far- fetched, but it’s thrilling in a way that urges you to continue reading. I would rate Pretty Little Devils  with 5 out of 5 stars, because I couldn’t put it down. You should definately pick it up.
