Jason Freeman, a new kid to beautiful Malibu, California, thinks that his new school with his new friends will make his life edgy and unpredictable. Just as he expects, everything is different, in a good way. He meets a gorgeous, but unattainable girl, he’s instantly popular, and the southern California parties are amazing. But all too soon, the fun stops and his new town is too much for him to handle when a girl washes up dead on the beach with strange marks on her neck. Jason looks into the murder, but it is more complex than he thought, and he soon finds out that his rich, secure neighborhood shares a common secret: they’re vampires. Jason tries to keep things normal, but he gets tangled into problems an 18-year-old boy shouldn’t have to face, and he learns quickly that the price for his curiosity might be greater than he realized. But no matter how bad things get, he’ll stick to his one goal: making it out alive. is the first book of two cultivating, edge-of-your -seat thrillers. Duval does an amazing job of bringing the characters to life and keeping steady action coming, while still weaving a complex, but easy to follow plot. The dialogue of this book keeps the pages turning and it creates images of the different scenes. is grabbing and exciting. I would recommend this book to a reader who likes a twisted plot and likes reading about random, unexpected events. If you enjoy losing yourself in a book, grab this one, and watch as the chapters slowly roll by.
