Lily Martin, a recently divorced magazine editor, was cleaning out her newly sold cabin with Dutch Burton, the ‘ex’, when he suddenly went in a rage that caused him to leave in an instant. Lily tired of both the fighting and cleaning fell asleep on the old mattress. Awakening a few hours later she realized the storm the weathermen had been predicting was going to be worse than everyone thought. She made a beeline for town, traveling an average speed of three miles per hour. On her way down the hill, she accidently runs over Ben Tierney, an avid hiker with a sixth sense for direction. They head back to the cabin to spend the night somewhere slightly warmer than the sub-zero degree weather outside.

Back in the quaint town of Cleary, Dutch and the entire police force are in search of a serial kidnapper.  With five girls already missing, the FBI decides to get involved. They already have a suspect that seems the most plausible. They think it’s the same man that Lily is spending the night with. Will Lily figure it out in time or will she perish in the end along with the other missing girls? How will the police reach her and the injured Tierney? Does the FBI have the right man in mind, or is it some one more sinister?

This book had me reading it non-stop. Sandra Brown’s vocabulary and descriptions are captivating. Her books have always interested me because of the genre and the way she writes. For this book, she went back and forth between individual’s lives and what was happening in the cabin. It was a little confusing in the beginning, but once you got to know the characters you could somewhat tell what was going to happen, until Sandra put a twist on the events as they were happening.
