The maze was supposed to be the last puzzle. Escaping the maze had left Thomas and the other gladers emotionally and physically drained; their rescue had been a relief, the end. None of the gladers knew what is outside of the maze but they figured it had to be better than the glade. They were wrong.
Solar flares have destroyed the earth and changed the once green planet into a dry, hot, barren waste land. A disease called the flare plagues the world. The flare eats at the brain of its victim, slowly making the person crazy, inhumane, an animal. The people infected with this disease are called cranks. Governments have crumbled and WICKED-World in Catastrophe, Kill-zone Experiment Department is formed by the remaining nation to get rid of the flare. WICKED has given the gladers the flare; they are cranks.
WICKED has a cure 100 miles north of where the gladers are, but they will have to cross the worst part of the world, all desert and cities of banished cranks, near the equator, to get it. The gladers have to reach the safe haven but will that be the end? Will the gladers go crazy before they make it to the cure?
The Scorch Trials is an exciting mix of romance, adventure and exploring human reactions to all but impossible tasks and situations. The Scorch Trials is much more exciting than The Maze Runner. You will find yourself screaming (in your mind) at Thomas,”Don’t trust her,” or, “RUN!” You feel like you are in the book.
