Do you love the elements of first person shooters and role playing games, but could never find a game that has BOTH? Borderlands takes the fun parts out of both genres and combines them into one entertaining game.

Borderlands was released on October 29, 2009, for the Xbox 360, Playstation 3, and PC. The game’s rating is mature, but if you’re not squeamish and can handle a bit of blood and gore then you’ll be alright. The game features an extensive single player campaign with many hours of game play and four downloadable expansions. You can also play the campaign with up to four friends online via Xbox live or playstation network, which can make the game a lot easier and more enjoyable. Borderlands also makes use of the random weapon generation system, producing millions of different guns and ensuring you’ll never have the exact same gun twice. You can also choose from four distinct characters, each one having their own special abilities and specializations with different types of guns. Borderlands features very bright, cartoony graphics, but the vivid colors bring the game to life, realistic or not. The sound effects of the game make you feel like you’re right in the action, whether you’re in a firefight with bandits or under attack by mutated wolves. If you play first person shooters like Call of Duty franchise, you’ll be used to the controls fast. If you’re in to role playing games like The Elder Scrolls franchise, the quests you do in the game will come to you naturally. And if you’re a fan of both, this may be one of your favorite games.

You are a mercenary, fresh off the bus on the planet Pandora. You are hunting the Vault, a rumored cache of alien technology. To find the vault, you will need the help of the inhabitants of Pandora, under constant attack from bandits, indigenous creatures of the planet, and an army of trained killers. By helping them with these threats, you’ll gain their trust and assistance in your search. But dark secrets lurk within the Vault…

Adjusting to the difficulty of Borderlands can be simple. In the beginning of the game, you are told all of the basics you need to know to survive, and you’ll learn more in time. If you have Xbox live or playstation network and friends who also have Borderlands, the enemies become tougher, but the loot is better and you and your friends can overcome more and more difficult challenges together. Borderlands also features intense vehicle to vehicle combat, where you can get behind the wheel of an armored vehicle loaded with weapons and destroy the competition. With the four different classes, Soldier, Hunter, Berserker, and Siren, you’ll be compelled to play through the game as a different class after you complete the game with one. You may choose the Soldier, with his mastery of all things automatic, the Hunter, a master of long ranged combat, the Berserker, a walking tank, or the Siren, a sneaky and silent assassin, preferring to use sub machine guns.

Overall, Borderlands is an entertaining game that everyone should at least give a chance. The main campaign can take a bit of time to complete by yourself, but there’s never a boring moment throughout it. Whether you’re a casual or hardcore player, you’ll still be to get enjoyment out of Borderlands.
