Darren Shan was a normal teenager, until his life was merged with that of the vampire clan. Darren travels the world with his mentor, Mr. Crepsley, striving to learn more of the vampire ways. Darren’s journey leads him to the home of the vampires: Vampire Mountain.

As Darren and Mr. Crepsley were resting at the Cirque du Freak, they were visited by a friend of Mr. Crepsley, who convinced him that it was time for him to present his apprentice, Darren, before the council of Vampire Generals and the Vampire Princes. The laws of the vampires say that the three of them must walk the whole journey to the mountain, a dangerous trek through the wilderness. Many dark secrets lay along this path of despair, as Darren soon finds out.

Darren learned the hard facts of being a vampire on his journey to Vampire Mountain. He slowly becomes engulfed in the war between the vampires and their brother clan, the vampaneze. Darren will have to keep his wits sharp and his weapons sharper if he hopes to make it through his journey in one piece.

Vampire Mountain is the 4th book in the Cirque Du Freak series, and is full of deception and secrets. I would highly recommend this book and series to anyone looking for a short and thrilling horror/adventure story. I found this book to be very exciting and well worth the time it took to read it.
