Annabel Greene was one of the “in” girls.  She had the friends, the popularity, and the life. But that all dramatically changed one night with a very public “falling out” with her ex-best friend Sophie.

Annabelle is now old news and somewhat of an outcast. She hates to think it, but she is just like those girls she used to anguish at Sophie’s side.  She sits alone at lunch and talks to no one. And she lives inside herself and tries to pretend that her life hasn’t fallen to shambles. But that all changes when Owen sits down next to her in lunch one day. Owen is intense and dark, and couldn’t be more different than Annabel.  But Annabel finds herself being towed in toward his honest and stable personality. Eventually Annabel and Owen become and he is the only one that Annabel can trust, but she still has her doubts.

After the “incident” last summer Annabel doesn’t let people in her life anymore. She thinks that to keep herself safe, she has to be totally blocked from the world around her.  Owen sees right through her though, and Annabel knows it.  She knows that people should know what really happened that night but she can’t allow herself to do it. Because telling the truth will change all of their lives, forever.

Just Listen by Sarah Dessen is a great story that many girls may be able to relate to. And how that the worst moments in your life can lead to the best. The story is relatable and shows that keeping secrets may not always be the best option, and that you need to trust and listen to yourself.
