Remy is now a high school graduate and doesn’t believe in love. “She takes on husbands like other people change their hair color: out of boredom and listlessness, or just feeling that this next one will fix everything once and for all.” That’s how Remy views her mother because she is starting her fifth marriage in a few weeks.

Since Remy doesn’t believe in love she plans to have fun this summer with as many guys as she can. The first guy she meets is Dexter. He is persistent on getting to know her and doesn’t leave her alone until she agrees to go out with him. Dexter is messy and he’s a musician, two traits Remy dislikes. Remy has a no musician rule but soon breaks it to be with Dexter. Dexter finds out Remy just wants a summer fling and planned to dump him at the end. He confronts her about this and ends things first before she can.

After a talk with her mother on the night of her falling-out with her new husband, Remy realizes her mother is the stronger of the two. Her mother puts herself out there for love even though she’s been hurt before, while Remy hides in a shell and dumps guys before she gets too attached. After realizing her true feelings for Dexter will she fix things with him before she goes to college? Or will she think it’s better to leave things like they are?

This Lullaby is one of many books written by Sarah Dessen. Some others are; The Truth About Forever, Someone Like You, and Just Listen, which were very good as well. Sarah’s writing will pull you in from the beginning because it’s easily relatable for teen girls. All of her books are masterpieces and very interesting to read.
