11-year-old Natalie Goode lives in NYC with her mom. Her mom thinks she needs more character so she is sending her to Camp Lakeview for 8 weeks. Natalie is dreading going because she’s not the outdoorsy type of girl. She is use to staying home over the summer and taking drama classes and getting up late and going out for brunch with her mom. She begged her mom not to make her go, but it didn’t work.

Natalie meets a lot of girls on the bus and tries to convince herself it won’t be that bad. The returning girls tell her about all the things they do and how nice the counselors are but Natalie still wasn’t warming up to it. After she gets to camp and see’s the bunks, which makes it worse. But as the days go on, things get better. Could this boy be her first crush? She herself is a little confused and doesn’t quite know the answer. Just as she was making new friends and starting to enjoy herself the slightest bit, her secret comes out. And now, everybody is treating her differently, some of her friends won’t even talk to her. Even the boy is mad at her. She didn’t mean for it to happen like that. She wanted people to like her for who she really is. But she knew if that secret came out nothing would be the same…

Natalie’s Secret is the first in the Camp Confidential series of over 20 books. There are 141 pages and it is a quick read for anyone who wants a cute, short book. This book would be best for girls in particular. There is a lot of drama, and girly situations but it shows how staying strong helps everything turn out for the better in the end.
