Ashley is a princess in a fairytale, not!
Ever since Ashley rose her hand to help set up for Prom, her life has spiraled out of her reach!  The interesting fact is she volunteered to help a prom that may not even happen.  Her math teacher stole all the prom money. Now Ash and her prom-obsessed best friend Nat are attempting to do the impossible and show everyone they can succeed.  Except one minor exception is, Ashley absolutely detests prom, she is the contradiction to the princess in the fairytale, she doesn’t want to be the princess, and the prom is her fairytale, waiting to happen! Can they pull it off in time?  Will Ashley change her mind about her way of viewing life, family …and prom?

In Prom, Ashley has done herself in.  She is helping bring her high school’s prom out from the ashes.  A feat she would rather see never happens!  Ashley views the world as a set fate, she is ‘normal’, not smart, an underachiever.   The ‘unfair’ world will only ever see her as average; she’ll never get out of the classifications that surround her!  She fights these feelings in the book, alongside her nagging ability to pessimistic at every pothole in the road of life.  This book is a fluffy read, not very gripping; it doesn’t pluck the heartstrings of your heart.  It is although an easily relatable read as many problems she faces; also face those who grow up ion small towns all across America!  Lauri Halse Anderson has a way of getting your attention, and making you focus on the plot at hand.  Her writing skills have won her many awards, it may not be this book, but ‘Speak’ the highly acclaimed read was also written by her!  I highly recommend this read to teenage girls, as they can relate to the problems that the author presents in this book!
